While reading Mr. Himpe's blog post, he seems to do an excellent job of citing how the use of the term "faggot" by Mr. Lukiwski in a video 17 years ago was inappropriate, even at that time. He also points out that 17 years is not that long ago, and implores those people with "Blue Coloured Glasses" on to take them off and realize that the term was just as offensive then as it is now. He uses the standard reference to Mr. Harper's Iron Control over his caucus, and asks that said control be lifted in this case so that Lukiskiw can explore with the media whether or not he feels that way today.
I am being polite in asking Mr. Himpe to take off his Red Coloured Glasses for a minute here.
I would like to point out here that he's right, that we're not in a completely different world now than we were then. But the world HAS changed. The two examples he cites showed that the world has moved on though. In those two examples it wasn't the media or the general public calling for an apology, it was ACTUALLY THOSE PEOPLE WHO FELT WRONGED. And there, Mr. Himpe, is the difference. Further, I have no doubt that after apologies were tendered, that they were accepted and the world moved on. There again, is the difference between then and now.
Mr. Himpe has made it clear that this isn't a question of just apologizing. If it was, then this would already be over, and the inane poll on the NewsTalk website questioning whether Lukiwski should resign would be replaced by a new poll. It's apparent that this is about the media frenzy expecting excuses, expecting fuel for the fire... in short, they expect blood in some way or another. The fact that he is not making excuses, not resigning, instead choosing to weather out the storm, must mean something or someone sinister is stopping him... Hence his comments about Mr. Harper and his "Iron Fisted Control".
But here's a new thought, Mr. Himpe. Since it's apparent that Mr. Lukiwski will merely apologize and will not do what you want, then there is another option for punishment - the voters for Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre will decide his fate - perhaps you will get your wish, and his punishment comes in the form of a reduced vote count.
And for the record, Mr. Himpe, Socialists and Liberals say hateful, hurtful things all the time. Very little sees the pages of the newspaper, the most recent being Robert Fife's comments about "knuckledragging" Conservatives, and your own comments about Mr. Harper. People in glass houses hide more when they control the message.
